January

  • January 31: The Teachings of Mutton: A Coast Salish Woolly Dog A Lecture by Liz Hammond-Kaaremmaa and Sul milthia’ Violet Elliott | Alberni Valley Museum | January 31, 2026 1:00 pm. | Copies of the book will be for sale after the lecture, offered by Mobius Books.
  • January 19: Chasearound socks with Marg McAulay. 10am – noon at Quality Foods, upstairs meeting area. Must be able to knit socks already. Email for more info.

  • November 16 from 10 – 2pm, Guild De-Stash Fundraiser at 3607 Morton Street: fibre, yarn, equipment, books, dye stuff for sale. Guild members may come by ahead of time for early bird. Drop off donations week of the 16th, help to set up is welcome on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Sept 04 – Sept 07. Find us at the fall fair, demo-ing spinning and other fibre arts, and raising awareness about fibre art, craft, and economies at the Port Alberni Fall Fair! We are located in the agricultural building. Gate times can be found here: https://www.albernifair.com/.

  • August 2, 3 Natural Dye days, 1pm – onwards. Come join us for a casual dyeing weekend. We will mordant, prepare dye baths, and dye together. There is no instructor – we are learning together. Bring whatever materials and dye stuff you have. Email albernivalleyfibre@proton.me for details.
  • July 05, 11am-2pm. Learn how to repair torn clothing with visible mending techniques with Su and Val at the Alberni Valley Museum.

  • June 07, 1pm-3pm. Learn the art of spool knitting with Cathy Bagley at the Alberni Valley Museum. Free event, drop-in.
  • May 24, 10am-3:30pm. Basketry workshop with Cynthia Minden. Learn the art of rib construction basketry and get a chance to practice by making multiple mini baskets.
  • May 10, 10am-3pm. Sheep to Shawl at Arrowvale Campground. Join the Alberni Valley Fibre Guild and the kids from 4H as we take fleece from a sheep to a finished shawl project, including shearing, skirting, carding the fleece, spinning the yarn, and weaving the shawl.
  • April 26, noon-4pm. Wool 101: Learn the history, science, and production of wool, meet a local fibre sheep flock, and learn how to evaluate a fleece for your own projects.
  • April 12, 1pm-3pm. Learn how to make cordage from local materials, with Leo King at the Alberni Valley museum. Free event, drop-in.
  • April 05, 1pm-3pm. Learn the art of Kumihimo Braiding with Cathy Bagley at the Alberni Valley museum. Free event, drop-in.
